Introduction
    The  electromagnetic  eddy  current  brake  is  a  new  auxiliary  brake  suitable  for  petroleum  drilling   rig  on  onshore  and  offshore, which is take  advantage  of electromagnetic  induction  principle  and carrying  out  brake  without  wearing,  having  the  features of  large  torque,  no consumable  accessories,  operating  longer  period,  simple  operation  and  maintenance.  Using  the  eddy  current  brake  can  reduce  break  system to wear  greatly,  prolonging operating  period  of  brake  hub, decreasing labor  strength  for  drilling  crew, basically  without  operating  main  brake  during  run  in   hole, brake  moment  can  be  regulated  just  by  changing  exciting  current  to  control  speed  of  drill  pipe  running  in. 75  per  cent  of  maximum  torque  can  be  got  when  the  rotary  speed  is  reduced  to  50  r/m, which  can  fully  satisfy  with    requirements  of  tripping   in  with  heavy  load.  The  brake  has  passed  performance  test which  is  carried  out  by  Products  Mass  Monitoring  Center  on  petroleum  drilling  and  production,  refining  equipment  of  State,  also  has  obtained  certificate of application  in  location,  it  has  excellent  performances ,  getting  to  the  domestic  advanced  level,  having passed  identification  about  province  stage,  widely  having  used  and  popularized  in  every  oil  field  of  state.

 Operating  Principle
 
When  a  moving  magnet  is  passing  a  stationary  magnetic  field,  the   circulating  electric  current  is  induced  on  the  plane  which  is  vertical  with  orientation  of  magnetic  field,   the  current  is called  an  eddy  current,  it  will  provide  a  revolving  magnetic  field,  the  polarity  of   the field  is just  right  contrary  to  that  of  original  stationary  magnetic  field,  two magnetic  fields  whose  polarities are  contrary  to  each  other  will   resist  the  moving  of  conductor  in  the  field,  that  is  the principle  of  an  eddy  current  brake.
The  essential  conditions  of  producing  an  eddy  current  and  anti-magnetic  field  are  that  an  iron  conductor  is  moved  in  a  stationary  field,  so  that  the  eddy  current
